arrow 1Acts of violence and other antisocial, self/other destructive behaviors are often set in motion by feelings of REJECTION. The following activities allow participants to explore REJECTION and its opposite, ACCEPTANCE, while interacting in small groups.  (To increase interaction and promote wider understanding and ACCEPTANCE, you might want to form the small groups by having participants count off before each activity so they interact with new people each time.)

1-- In groups, have participants share

  • 3 times they felt REJECTED

  • 3 times they REJECTED others

  • 3 times they wanted to “say no” but didn’t because they were afraid of REJECTING someone else and being REJECTED in return.

2-- Have participants pair off and roleplay REJECTING and BEING REJECTED. They are to take turns asking each other for something (examples:  a date, to borrow money or a personal possession, etc.) and getting no for an answer.

3-- In groups, have participants share/discuss

  • 3 times they felt ACCEPTED

  • 3 times they ACCEPTED someone else

  • the 3 people they feel most ACCEPTED BY
